How to sell your home this Autumn
It’s been a long, hot summer, which has brought with it a surge in the housing market, but now the colder days and darker night have set in, how can you help to ensure your property sells in Autumn?
Firstly, be excited! September and October are traditionally busy months for estate agents, with lots of people keen to be in their new home in time for Christmas. Buyers tend to act fast, and with fewer holidays and other activities holding up the over all process, sales can move much faster.
Secondly, embrace the season. Accept that it’s darker and put on the lights; accept that it’s colder and turn on the heating; and accept that the colours outside are changing and bring the gorgeous autumnal colours inside. Throws, rugs, cosy cushions all make your home look comforting and inviting. This time of year is all about natural colours and materials, all of which will make your home look toasty and refreshed.
Just because the bedding plants are dying, and the garden is looking duller, does not make the outside of your home any less of an important selling point at this time of year; so make sure it is in good condition when prospective buyers come to view your home. Sweep away the fallen leaves, and make sure the lawn is cut and the plants have been pruned back so they look great all through winter.
It’s not just the garden that needs to be kept tidy – the whole of the outside of your home needs kept in check. Clear the gutters, wash your windows and keep steps and paths clear of leaves as much as you can.
Finally, remember that it gets dark mid-afternoon as you approach October, so allow your estate agent to schedule viewings at the weekend, and in the afternoons to allow your property to be seen in the daytime as much as possible.
