Selling in Spring

Spring is traditionally the busiest time of year for the Scottish housing market.  As soon as the thaw comes and we venture outside, squinting in the sun we get excited about new beginnings and hop back onto the Rightmove app!  If you are one of the millions who will be considering a move this year, here are a few top tips for getting your home sale ready in Spring:

Banish the dark and cosy feel

The key thoughts for selling in Spring are light, bright and clean.  Winter’s gone so banish the cosy fur blanket from the sofa and the heavy duvets on the beds and bring the bright colours back.  Flowers are in bloom so fill a vase or two or bring in some potted plants.  Put fruit on display in the kitchen and clean those windows so the light can shine in.  Make the most of the sunshine and bring the brightness back!

Venture outside

The chances are that your garden, balcony or outside space is a bit of a disaster after all of the snow and heavy rain we’ve had, so get it tidied up!  Daffodils, tulips and other springtime flowers will go a long way in making a winter garden look alive again and (if you can face it) dig out the lawn mower on a dry day and turn the winter field back to a lawn again! 

Clean the driveway, tend to any flaking paint and make sure the outside of your home looks as awesome as the inside.  Dare we say it…but think ‘kerb appeal’!

Get Spring Clean

Let’s face it, you probably haven’t opened your windows or doors much recently, so the chances are that your home has smelled fresher.  So, get cleaning and don’t forget the three C’s of a fresher home – curtains, cushions and carpets!  The heavier the fabrics, the more likely they are to hold onto the smells and stains that the festive season has brought into our homes.  You’ll be amazed at the difference that a clean carpet can make to a room.
