If you view several houses a week in the hunt for your dream home, it can be easy to get lost in the search and forget the details. By setting your priorities early on, you can reduce the stress and feel like you have a handle on the process.
Here are a few tips to help you stay organised and focused on the important things during your house hunt:
- Set your priorities.
Before taking a look at any houses, write out everything you want in a home, with input from all members of the household. Then choose your top five, or even top three, must-haves. Once you start looking, all sorts of tiny faults can put you off a home, or make you fall in love with it, but keeping your priorities list close at hand can help you stay on track.
- Make a comparison checklist
After you have seen a few houses, it can become difficult to keep track of the features in each one. Make things a little easier by creating your own comparison checklist, and make notes on it during or immediately after each viewing.
- Make a decision about each property
After viewing each property, decide whether it is one which can definitely be ‘ruled out’ or whether it’s a possibility for you. If the latter, start a list of properties viewed and rank each property in order of preference.
- Speak to the estate agent.
Sometimes deciding whether to rule out a property or where to rank it on your list can be a tricky decision and questions which would help you decide, only arise after the viewing, when you have had the opportunity to reflect. At Joyce Heeps Homes we are keen to hear from viewers after their viewings in order to assist in whatever way we can, with the decision making process – whether the end result is buying the particular house you were viewing or helping you to find another.
